- When you do eat red meat, choose grass fed. Grass feeding dramatically reduces a cow’s environmental impact. This also goes for buying dairy!
- Chicken and fish are better options than red meat. A life cycle study found that red meat accounts for about 150% more greenhouse gas emissions than chicken or fish.
- When buying fish, check the label. If it says ‘Marine Stewardship Council’ that’s a guarantee that the product is sustainable.
- Eat more pasture raised eggs. They are one of the most climate-friendly sources of animal protein, and it’s totally possible to eat eggs without harming animals if you do your research and buy from the right place.
- Challenge yourself to cook a meal made up of entirely local ingredients at least once a week.
- Eat more broccoli and potatoes! Broccoli and potatoes both create compounds that work in the same way as pesticides - but are totally natural. So pesticides are almost never used when growing them
